2019 BMW X5 Spy Shots

Even though BMW released the current X5 back in 2013, it looks like they are already working hard to release a new version. This will likely hit the market with the future 2019 BMW X5 which is set to hit the market some time in 2018. While the details are still scarce, there are quite a few interesting inside details about the new model. For starters, even though they really didn’t need to release a new model, BMW is doing it in order to streamline the manufacturing process. This is because the upcoming X5 is going to use their highly modular CLAR architecture which now underpins most of their other cars.

Over its predecessor, this new platform should allow the X5 to be lighter, offer better NVH levels as well as become safer in the case of a crash. Like before, the platform will mostly use aluminum in its construction but it should also use some carbon fiber this time around. Read about new Honda Fit….

Unfortunately the specific proportions of the upcoming X5 are still unknown. Even so, from the spy shots it looks like BMW may have stretched the wheelbase slightly.

Despite that, the car doesn’t look any longer than its predecessor but it definitely looks lower and wider. This should translate in a better to drive vehicle but only time will tell how good it actually is.

The CLAR architecture underpinning it will remain rear wheel drive at its core.

This is great, especially since some rumors suggested a while ago the car will go to a front wheel drive architecture.

Release and Price

Even though the manufacturer didn’t say a word about it, the 2019 BMW X5 will more than likely hit the market in the mid of 2018. However, they should first unveil it much sooner than that, likely at the start of the same year.

Its price is going to vary greatly from around $58,000 for a base model to north of $90,000 for the higher end versions.

As before, most people are going to buy the X5 not for its performance but mostly for its badge and looks. However, there will be some buyers looking at what the car has to offer.

Well, for these people we actually have great news. It seems like BMW is going to install all new engines under the hood of the car.

The most basic model should now feature a new 2.0 liter turbo-four which may provide up to 300 horsepower and 300 lb-ft of torque.

The higher end versions of the car will stick with a 3.0 liter inline-six. This engine should now be capable to provide closer to 400 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque. This will allow the lighter weight X5 to hit 60 MPH faster and also hit a much higher maximum top speed.

The range-topping version will definitely remain the 2019 BMW X5 M. This one is likely going to make closer to 600 horsepower from a newly updated 4.4 liter twin-turbo V8.

As before, all engines will come mated to an 8 speed automatic which will drive all four wheels. Some also suggested the car may also provide a 6 speed manual gearbox in Europe. Even though this has yet to be confirmed, it would definitely make the X5 quite an enticing offering.

Unsurprisingly, the upcoming 2019 BMW X5 is not going to be all that different from its predecessor. The overall profile of the car is very similar to its predecessor.

The big change here looks to be the front end. Here BMW installed a much larger set of grilles. New headlights which are more similar to the 7 Series as well as a new bumper with larger intakes.

The rear took a similar route as well but here the bumper is quite a bit cleaner-looking than on its predecessor. The X5 M will come with a hood bulge. New wider fender flares as well as what seem to be massive 22 inch rims.

The interior of the 2019 BMW X5 is unfortunately still well under wraps. Even so, we doubt much will change over what the current model, or the new 5 Series, have to offer.

Expect a more minimalist design than before with better materials and a slightly more comprehensive set of features.
