2019 Honda Insight Hybrid

2019 Honda Insight Hybrid

The first and second generations of the Insight were two economy hybrids that sold quite well. Sadly Honda decided to discontinue the model back in 2014 in order to replace it with a lower end Civic. However, not that hybrids are on a roll once again, the manufacturer revealed an all new model with the 2019 Honda Insight. Even though there are still some missing details, the car looks quite impressive and it seems like it may be a major step up over its predecessor.

2019 Honda Insight Review

Thanks to the new platform, the new Insight is longer and wider than ever before.

For starters, the car is no longer using a Fit-based platform. Instead, it looks like the new Insight may be using Honda’s new modular architecture which also underpins the Civic. VW Jetta GLI is waiting for you!

This is a relatively lightweight platform known for great structural rigidity. The only real drawback we see with it would be the price but more on that later.

Thanks to the new platform, the new Insight is longer and wider than ever before. However, the car is definitely lower which helps it create a completely different look than that of its predecessor. With the new platform, the Insight also features a vastly different running gear.

It looks like it may use a fully independent setup with disc brakes at all four corners. This should assure the car will not only be efficient but it will also drive quite well. There are some drawbacks with its size.

Even though the car is larger than its predecessor, it also means it will not be as efficient in a city as before. This may not be a huge deal for some but it may still be a problem for some of its buyers.

Release, Price

For now Honda didn’t say when the new Insight will hit the market or when they will fully reveal it. However, considering the car looks nearly completed, we can expect it in the upcoming month and it should hit the market by the summer of 2018. Read about Insight on Wikipedia….

The price of the 2019 Honda Insight is likely going to hover around the price of the Prius. This would actually make it more expensive than before but then again, the car should come with more features too.

Redesign

Honda basically combined the design of the Civic sedan with the face of the Accord.

Likely one of the biggest improvements over the older models is the way the new Insight looks. Instead of looking like just another dull wedge-shaped car, Honda basically combined the design of the Civic sedan with the face of the Accord.

The end result is quite impressive with a clean-looking front end, a large and imposing grille as well as a coupe-like stance.

The rear is equally impressive with perfectly sized tail lights, a clean-bumper as well as a relatively tall trunk which makes it look like a true coupe.

Competition

Toyota Prius, Kia Niro, Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, Hyundai Ioniq, Chevrolet Volt, Ford C-Max, Audi A3

Interior

From the renders it looks like the cabin of the 2019 Honda Insight will be as impressive as its exterior. For starters, the car is not going to share much with the Civic or the Accord.

The center stack will be quite minimalist with a pop-up infotainment system. There will be a fully digital instrument cluster in store too while the center console will only feature buttons for the transmission and emergency brakes and that’s it.

The unusual thing about the cabin has to be the placement of the AC vents on the center stack which are behind the infotainment system. This is likely because Honda wanted the car to be as clean as possible but it does take away from its usability.

Colors

Alabaster Silver Metallic, Crystal Black Pearl, Mediterranean Blue Pearl, Milano Red

Engine, Specs

The car will come with a version of Accord’s 2.0 liter naturally aspirated hybrid mill.

Despite what some of the early rumors said, it looks like the 2019 Honda Insight is not going to feature a 1.3 liter engine. Instead, the car will come with a version of Accord’s 2.0 liter naturally aspirated hybrid mill. This is likely going to provide less than 200 horsepower but even so, it should still be quite impressive.

The dual electric motor system alongside the high efficiency gasoline engine are likely going to provide a total of around 130 to 160 horsepower.

The best part about this system is going to be its efficiency. Early reports are saying the car will feature over 50 MPG on average with some saying it may hit up to 60 MPG on the highway. If this happens then the new Insight may become one of the most efficient hybrids out there.
