2019 Land Rover Defender Price

The Defender has been one of Land Rover’s longer running cars with a lifespan of more than 40 years. Unfortunately the manufacturer had to discontinue the model a year ago as it was no longer compliant with the latest safety regulations. While many people thought the car was gone, it looks like the company will release a successor. There aren’t that many details available just yet. Even so, it is safe to assume the upcoming 2019 Land Rover Defender will be quite an impressive vehicle. As it will have to replace such a capable off-road machine, it is safe to assume it will be just as good as the previous model. There will be quite a few differences between the two and some of them will be quite interesting.

2019 Land Rover Defender Review,Rumors

While the other cars using the platform are fine, none of them is as good as the old Defender.

For starters, the upcoming Defender is no longer going to use a body on frame design. Instead, the car will boast an all aluminum spaceframe, similar to that of the larger Range Rover. At first this was just a rumor but a Land Rover official confirmed it a while ago. Read about new Jeep Grand Wagoneer

As this is the case, expect the upcoming Defender to be more efficient, better to drive on the road and more expensive. On top of that, the new chassis would allow Land Rover to maintain the Defender in the safety standards for quite a bit longer than before.

The only real drawback we see with the new platform would be the car’s off-road performance. While the other cars using the platform are fine, none of them is as good as the old Defender.

Because of this, we do hope the upcoming 2019 Land Rover Defender will feature something more special in order to be able to remain at least as good as its predecessor when it comes to off-road.

Release and Price

2019 Land Rover Defender should start at around $60,000 or more.

So far Land Rover released a concept, with the DC100, a while ago. This was nothing more than just a vehicle to showcase the public what they can expect.

However, it looks like the production model will be quite a bit more different. For starters, the car will share quite a few more details with its predecessor.

On top of that, it looks like a four-door version might be in store. Its price is likely going to be quite a bit higher as well.

If the rumors are true then the upcoming 2019 Land Rover Defender should start at around $60,000 or more. This rather large increase would allow it to compete with cars like the G-Wagon which still sells tremendously well.

Redesign

We can expect the upcoming Defender to have quite a few things in common with its predecessor.

As we previously said, we can expect the upcoming Defender to have quite a few things in common with its predecessor. The rectangular grille, round headlights and even the boxy look of the hood should stay.

However, the car will feature a completely different bumper and likely an all new design on the sides and at the back.

This should allow it to appeal to the younger generation which is not really looking to buy crossovers anymore. The interior of the car is also going to be quite special and nothing like that of its predecessor.

If the rumors are true then the 2019 Land Rover Defender will get a nearly identical cabin to the Range Rover Sport. This should definitely make it a rather impressive car but it might take away from the versatility that made it famous.

Ford Bronco, Jeep Wrangler, Mercedes-Benz G-Class

Engine and Specs

The most basic version of the upcoming Defender is more than likely going to use a 3.0 liter turbocharged V6 diesel. With around 250 horsepower and over 400 lb-ft of torque, this should allow the SUV to go pretty much anywhere.

Further up the range the car should get a 3.0 liter supercharged V6 which may provide anything from 340 to 380 horsepower and up to 332 lb-ft of torque.

Both engines might receive not only an 8 speed automatic but also a 6 speed manual. Like before, a four wheel drive system will be standard across the range. While it still is quite early, it looks like a sports version might be in store.

This should boast a larger 5.0 liter supercharged V8. With as much as 550 horsepower and over 500 lb-ft of torque, the Defender might have what it takes to tackle the AMG G-Class.
