2019 Lexus ES Redesign

2019 Lexus ES Redesign

The Lexus ES is a mid-size luxury sedan which has been around for over two decades at this point. In this time the car evolved tremendously but it still remains the same mushy sedan as it used to. The car offers the comfort of a true luxury car but it has been falling short when it came to the way it drove. Even so, it still sold quite well as it managed to offer quite a bit for the price. Luckily it looks like the manufacturer is going to release an update with the future 2019 Lexus ES. Even though so far they haven’t said anything about this update, we have already managed to see the camouflaged test mule. This reveals a few interesting design choices which clearly shows that Lexus is looking to become a bit more premium than before.

Lexus News

We recently saw in Kentucky, USA, the new Lexus ES 2019. After the LS, Lexus focused all of its power on the new ES model. What we can see on a spy photo is that the new model will be bigger which should translate in more passenger space.

The new 2019 model will not be much more different from the previous model, but some distinct design decisions and equipment will allow it to stand unique in the crowd. We notice that aggressive tail lamps resemble the Hyundai Sonata. The platform and the engine will borrow from Toyota Avalon.

Tailgate is redesigned, and have chrome trim covering the entire width. These are just some of the innovations we are waiting to see on this proud member of the Lexus family. As for the question when will it have a debut? Answer to that is that we most likely see it on the 2018 New York International Auto Show. To be continued…. Update: 3.29.2018

2019 Lexus ES Review, Rumors

ES is going to use Toyota’s all new TNGA modular architecture.

As with the previous generation, the upcoming ES will share its architecture with the Avalon and Camry. However, this time around the car is not going to use Toyota’s K-platform. Mmmm Mazda 6 2019….

Instead, the ES is going to use Toyota’s all new TNGA modular architecture.

This is known to be stiffer and lighter than that of its predecessor. These will translate in a better set of driving characteristics, a more comfortable ride as well as a slightly more predictable behavior.

Over its predecessor, the new model will also feature a different running gear with bigger brakes. The latter will be needed, especially since the current model has been falling short when it came to the braking performance.

Release, Price

The price should hover around $40,000 for a base model which is right where its predecessor was.

Considering the state of the development prototype, it is safe to assume the 2019 Lexus ES is not far away from release. The car is likely going to hit the showroom’s floor in a few months and it should hit the market shortly after that.

The price should hover around $40,000 for a base model which is right where its predecessor was. The big difference may come with the higher end model which could become considerably more expensive than before.

Redesign

The car also features a sloping roof, a lower front end as well as a curvier rear end.

Even though the car we have seen was heavily camouflaged, this clearly reveals the proportions. The new model will be longer, wider and it will have a longer wheelbase as well.

However, it also seems noticeably shorter in height which translates in a more aggressive look.

The car also features a sloping roof, a lower front end as well as a curvier rear end, all of which add up for a more premium-looking vehicle.

In terms of design, it looks like in the front the 2019 Lexus ES will boast the usual spindle grille alongside the really slim headlights. The rear is going to be a tad different. Here the car will get a more conventional look, more similar to Lexus’ later vehicles.

Interior

At this point this is one of the bigger unknown factors about the future 2019 Lexus ES. Even so, we are quite sure Lexus is going to revamp themselves.

We expect to see a really similar dashboard layout to that of their flagship sedan. This would give the ES a small edge over its rivals and it should make things quite a bit nicer inside the cabin.

While we doubt the car will come with the same materials as the higher end models, it should still be well above a $35,000 to $40,000 sedan.

In terms of space, the ES is likely going to feature slightly more than before. This will be possible thanks to its new platform with the extended wheelbase.

Engine, Specs

A new 8 speed automatic should replace the aging 6 speed gearbox too.

Chances are the 3.5 liter naturally aspirated V6 will still be here. This engine should now provide around 300 horsepower and over 260 lb-ft of torque.

As before, the car is likely going to be front wheel drive only. A new 8 speed automatic should replace the aging 6 speed gearbox too.

This will allow the car to offer better performance while also being more efficient. A hybrid is also a real possibility but at this point the details are still scarce.

Some also suggested Toyota may install a new 2.0 liter turbo-four capable of as much as 300 horsepower and 300 lb-ft of torque. If this is the case then the ES may become one of the more interesting cars to drive in its class.

  1. The biggest redesign needed is the hybrid engine. This is 2018 – no hybrid should require more than 7 seconds to accelerate 0-60. And I mean 7.00000 seconds on a luxury car no more – not even a fraction

  2. I hope they improve the voice recognition feature, which is almost useless. I depend on live destination assist, but it’s costly.
