2019 Nissan Kicks Review

2019 Nissan Kicks Review

Nissan released the Kicks, a small SUV, back in 2016. They started to sell it only in Brazil at first but they soon released the car in other markets such as China or Mexico. It now seems like the manufacturer is ready to expand the production for the Kicks. Rumors about a US version started to surface not that long ago and it looks like they may just release the car with the 2019 Nissan Kicks. The US version is likely going to be pretty close in terms of specs and features to the current Brazilian model. The car may become a replacement for the Juke which is quite old at this point. It not only offers a better design but it comes with more features too. The end result is a relatively inexpensive crossover that will easily be able to compete in a crowded market sector.

The US version is not going to be any different. It will still use Nissan’s V-architecture which has been around for a while.

Even though the car is relatively new, it is based on the same platform as the Juke. The US version is not going to be any different. It will still use Nissan’s V-architecture which has been around for a while. This is actually derived from their hatchback platform, so it is actually quite capable for its size. The running gear on the other hand may change slightly. It looks like Nissan could use a fully independent setup for the US and European versions of the car.

These will benefit from either front or all wheel drive, so the setup in the back is going to be slightly different. Some also suggested that Nissan will use different brakes as well. It looks like four wheel disc brakes with larger rotors may be in use. Nissan Kicks on Wikipedia

Redesign

The headlights are larger than on the Juke but they are slightly swept back.

This has to be one of the strongest points of the 2019 Nissan Kicks. Unlike the Juke, which has a rather polarizing design, the 2019 Nissan Kicks is going to be nothing alike.

The car will be mostly identical to the ongoing model. This features a V-shaped design in the front with a honeycomb mesh grille. The headlights are larger than on the Juke but they are slightly swept back.

The bumper is also quite aggressive in comparison to its predecessor. In terms of size, the car is roughly the same as the Juke but thanks to its vastly different design, it looks more compact.

The car also features a floating roof design and a slightly arched roof which further elevates the design.

Interior

Unlike its predecessor, the cabin of the 2019 Nissan Kicks is a far better place to be. The materials are better and the general layout is quite a bit nicer too. The dashboard is separated into two different areas, so everything looks nicely laid out.

The infotainment system is of a much better quality than before while the leather-padded dashboard, the flat-bottom steering wheel or the massive instrument cluster screen make the Kicks stand out.

The only real drawback we have with the car are the plastic AC vents which seem really cheap.

Engine, Specs

Some suggested a 1.2 liter turbo-four may replace the 1.6 liter engine.

The ongoing model features a 1.6 liter naturally aspirated mill which is good for 125 horsepower and 115 lb-ft of torque. This drives the front wheels only via a CVT gearbox.

The combo is not that great for efficiency or power. We do hope the 2019 model is going to change that with some of the engines that were found on the Juke. Some suggested a 1.2 liter turbo-four may replace the 1.6 liter engine.

This should be able to deliver closer to 130 horsepower and 140 lb-ft of torque. A larger 1.6 liter turbo-four with up to 200 horsepower is also a real possibility.

Both of these should be available with either a 6 speed manual or a dual-clutch automatic. All wheel drive, unlike up to this point, is more than likely going to be an option.
