2019 Toyota Corolla Hatchback

2019 Toyota Corolla Hatchback

The ongoing Corolla has been around for a while now and it finally looks like the manufacturer is going to do something about it. A couple of months back we finally managed to take a look at the camouflaged version of the 2019 Toyota Corolla and we have to say, look do look impressive. It seems like the car is going to grow in size while being more efficient. Even though the manufacturer didn’t really say much about the future car, it seems like there is quite a bit of inside information available. For starters, the new car is going to use Toyota’s all new TNGA modular architecture. This also underpins some of their other vehicles and it is known to be quite an improvement over its predecessor.

2019 Toyota Corolla Review, Rumors

Even though the details are mostly unknown, from the spy shots we have seen so far, it looks like the car will be bigger. For starters, the wheelbase definitely looks longer while the car seems to be wider as well. We are waiting for Honda Accord Type R

Despite that, the car is definitely lower which is mostly due to the massive design change Toyota chose.

With the new hatchback, which we managed to see not that long ago in camouflaged form, Toyota is also going to release a sedan version.

The details about this are mostly unknown but even so, it looks like the car will be quite a change over its predecessor as well.

Release, Price

Considering the state of the camouflaged version, it is safe to assume the 2019 Toyota Corolla is not that far from release. Most rumors seem to suggest an early 2018 reveal.

However, the production model is more than likely going to hit the market closer to the end of the year which would be right in time to compete with the new arrivals. Unfortunately Toyota didn’t reveal any prices up to this point.

Even so, we would expect the car to cost roughly the same as before with some of the higher end models becoming a bit more expensive. Some said that Toyota will cap the price at around $30,000 which would make it a steal.

As we have said, the biggest change to happen with the new 2019 Toyota Corolla has to be the way it looks.

The manufacturer finally abandoned that rather dull design with the uninspired front end for something a bit more impressive.

There is a new grille in there and it looks like the headlights may be inspired by those on the Prius. The car’s rear end is also a major change with new tail lights and a more raked tailgate.

The profile of the new Corolla is also majorly different. Here we can see a new roof line, different doors, a far beefier appearance and a new wheelbase which gives the car a new set of proportions for sure.

Ford Focus, Honda Civic, Chevrolet Cruze, Volkswagen Jetta, Mazda 3

For now this is the largest unknown factor. Even though there isn’t all that much information available, we expect to see here an evolution of what the current car has.

The dashboard is likely going to feature a design slightly aimed at the driver while the center stack would keep he asymmetrical look.

Unlike the older model, the new car should boast things like a digital instrument cluster, a new infotainment system and possibly a head-up display. The driving position will be lower and there will be quite a bit more room for all five passengers.

Engine, Specs

Most industry experts seem to suggest the 2019 Toyota Corolla will also feature BMW engines. Chances are that at launch, the base model will come equipped with a 1.2 liter turbo-four good for around 115 horsepower and little over 120 lb-ft of torque.

A 1.8 and a 2.0 liter naturally aspirated engines will follow shortly. However, later down the road the car should also receive two more powertrains.

There will be a new 1.5 liter turbo-three with around 130 to 150 horsepower and up to 200 lb-ft of torque.

The range-topping models should boast a 2.0 liter turbo-four with the possibility of making in excess of 300 horsepower. This particular engine should power a future TRD model as well. If Toyota finally decides to do it then the Corolla will finally be able to compete with the top hatchbacks on the market.
