2019 Toyota Tundra Redesign

2019 Toyota Tundra Redesign

The ongoing Tundra is the oldest truck currently on sale on the North American market. The truck has been around since 2006 and since then it didn’t really change much. In fact the base of the truck remained the same with the only real upgrades being mostly cosmetic. However, it now looks like the Japanese manufacturer is finally going to release a major update. While the details are still scarce, it looks like the future 2019 Toyota Tundra will be the model to boast all those changes. So far there are still very few available details about it. Even so, it looks like the new Tundra will not have much in common with its predecessor.

This article is just a rumor!

2019 Toyota Tundra Rumors and News

For starters, the new version of the Tundra is more than likely going to use a new chassis.

This should be a new high-strength steel boxed frame which would be considerably stiffer and slightly lighter than before. The running gear might also become more capable. How? Well, for starters, the new Tundra should get a fully independent suspension setup in the front with a new live rear axle in the back. Here you can read the review about the new 2020 Subaru WRX STI

This should use coil springs or air-shocks, depending of the model of choice. The end result will be better on-road driving characteristics without sacrificing much. The current Tundra can be regarded as a larger than half-a-ton truck.

Well, this will change in the future. We hope Toyota will offer a half-a-ton model alongside a larger truck. This should finally allow them to offer a competitive product which hasn’t been the case for more than a decade now.

Release and Price

There have been plenty of rumors about the release date of the future 2019 Toyota Tundra.

Unfortunately the manufacturer decided to stay mostly quiet. Even so, the truck should still hit the market before 2019 which will allow Toyota to tackle the upcoming Ram 1500 head-on. Read about Toyota Tundra on Wikipedia

One of the biggest changes will likely be its price. It looks like the new Tundra will become quite a bit more affordable than its predecessor. Chances are it will start at less than before with the higher end models topping at around $33,000.

The interior of the current model was likely one of the biggest selling points of the truck.

This should not change for the future model. Like before, the truck will be available in multiple cab configurations. This should allow the buyer to customize the truck to its own liking. On top of that, the materials as well as the design inside the cabin will change tremendously.

If the rumors are true, the new Tundra should become closer to the Tacoma than ever before. The design will be less vertical and there will be far less plastic than before as well. Another big change will be the available space.

It seems the Tundra will offer more cabin space thanks to a new less-intrusive chassis. The exterior of the truck will remain as imposing as before.

However, this time around the truck will also offer a more aggressive look which should appeal to more customers than before.

The vertical front end will be gone while in the front it should offer a completely different grille, more similar to the one on the Tacoma.

Engine and Specs

Some of the biggest changes will happen here.

The new 2019 Toyota Tundra is more than likely going to come equipped with all new engines. The old 4.6 liter naturally aspirated V8 should not power the base model anymore.

In its place Toyota might install a smaller 3.5 liter naturally aspirated V6. With the help of direct and port injection, variable valve timing and a modified Atkinson cycle, this engine should be good for close to 300 horsepower and 300 lb-ft of torque. The best part about it would be the fact that it would provide 10 to 15% better fuel consumption than the old V8.

The range-topping models are also expected to ditch the V8. In its place Toyota might install their all new 3.5 liter twin-turbo V6.

This has already been used in the Lexus LS where it made quite an impression. With over 400 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque on tap, this should easily become one of the most impressive engines in its class.

As before, all trucks will get an automatic but this time it should be an 8 or 10 speed gearbox.
