2020 Aston Martin DBX SUV Review

2020 Aston Martin DBX SUV Review

The Aston Martin is associated with elegance, luxury and performance. For a long time, the marque has produced only coupes and sedans. Now, they are bringing forth a new body style by revealing the 2020 Aston Martin DBX SUV. According to online reports, the new model is under development and could be with us soon. Here is what we’ve discovered about it so far.

Origins and inspiration

Ever since 2009, Aston Martin has had ambitions of building an SUV. Their first attempt at the body style resulted in the Lagonda. Later on in 2015, the company previewed an SUV concept at the Geneva Auto Show. Recently, they released a number of prototype pictures through their online platforms.  Despite remaining tight lipped about the new SUV, Aston Martin has confirmed that the car will be a production model and it will have the DBX name. Moreover, the company has shared that they expect to launch the new SUV at the close of 2019. After analyzing the test photos that have been shared online, we observed that the disguised Aston Martin DBX was photographed in a Welsh forest.  The company’s chief testing engineer Matt Becker was among the team that was putting the car through its paces. As a matter of fact, he has been captured in some of the photos. From the look of things, Aston is producing a crossover SUV that will win in all terrains. It will be constructed in a brand new factory located in St. Athans, South Wales which the company hopes to transform into its electrification center.

Exterior design

Judging from the photographs that have been released online, the new 2020 Aston Martin DBX SUV shares numerous styling cues with the new generation DBS. It rides high and has substantial ground clearance. Its radiator grille extends from the lower bumper’s midsection all the way to its hood. This section is sandwiched between a pair of minimalist diagonal air vents. The slim profile headlights slant inwards towards the radiator and complete a sporty front fascia. After observing its test run photographs, the new DBX has a crossover body style. It’s A-pillars slope backwards creating an acute 45 degree angle. It is a 5 door SUV and has a sunroof which extends from its front section all the way to the rear. The tailgate has a spoiler attached to its upper part. The rear is quite minimalist. All that is visible is the round taillights and indicators. Moreover, its tail pipes emerge out of cutlets in the rear bumper. The marque has equipped this model with large, 20 inch wheels that can take an off-road thrashing and emerge unscathed!

Interior design

While the exterior of this new Aston is rugged, its interior is supple and luxurious. The company
has not released a single picture of its interior. Hence, we can only speculate based on the
appearance of the other models from the marque. Its dashboard will look very similar to the latest DB11. The steering wheel will most likely be a multifunctional unit featuring soft touch buttons on its spokes. To maintain its high tech approach, the model’s vehicle performance statistics will be presented on an LCD instrument
panel. It is very likely that the center stack will be built of some luxurious material such as wood
grain, carbon fiber, titanium or brushed aluminum.

Knowing the new interior design language at Aston Martin, the traditional gear stick will be
replaced by shift paddles on the back of the steering wheel. Moreover, a touch sensitive rotary
controller can take center stage at the lower section of the center stack. It will be essential for
controlling the car’s infotainment system that will be presented on a 10 inch panel that
automatically rises from the dashboard. One of the features that are likely to be included in the interior is two-tone upholstery. Aston provides this service with all their latest models. Drivers can pick a combination such as black and walnut, grey and tan, black and blue as well as navy and burgundy. Based on its body style
and door count, the 2020 Aston Martin DBX SUV will have capacity for 5 passengers. All the
complementary entertainment and connectivity options such as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and NFC will
be included.

Engine specs

Aston has remained fairly tight-lipped about the engine options which they have for the new model. Despite this, we can confidently predict that the new model will have a V12 or a V8 from AMG. The V8 has a capacity of 4 liters and is a lightweight powerplant with lots of torque. The V12 engine has 2 turbochargers and makes 715 horsepower as well as 663 lb-ft (pound-feet) of torque. If the 2020 Aston Martin DBX SUV is developed to compete with super SUVs from other companies, it will have to use the V12. Both engines are expected to deliver power to the wheels through an 8-speed ZF automatic transmission system.

Release date, price and availability

Considering all indications, the new Aston DBX SUV is expected to be launched in 2020. Upon landing in showrooms, the base model of this SUV will have a price tag of around $226,250. Any high level trims will cost a little bit more.
