2020 Porsche Taycan Review

2020 Porsche Taycan Review

Porsche is a marque with racing and performance pedigree. Their classic 911 lineup has broken records on and off the track. In a bid to stay relevant with modern trends and technologies, the company has released some models that are unique to their pedigree. Examples of these are the Porsche Cayenne SUV and the Panamera coupe-wagon. These models show the flexibility at Porsche. Based on the information that we have, they are looking to display this capability with a new model that is known as the 2020 Porsche Taycan. Here is what we have managed to learn about it.

What exactly is the 2020 Porsche Taycan?

In 2016, Porsche released an all-electric concept car which they christened the Mission E sedan. Fans, enthusiasts and automobile critics gave positive reviews of the model so the marque promised to release a production version. They indicated that it would be named the Taycan. Recently, some spy photos taken at the Porsche development circuit at Weissach, Germany showed a Taycan prototype being tested.

According to the body style and projected performance details, the Taycan is a new, 4-door sports car. When announcing the new car’s name, Porsche CEO Oliver Blume indicated that the 2020 Porsche Taycan is a strong, reliable performance car that will allow drivers to cover long distances with enhanced freedom.

Exterior design

Based on all available reports, the new model will maintain the futuristic look of the Mission E concept and also have the classic features of other Porsche models. Based on the spy photos that we have reviewed, the model will have large proportions similar to the Panamera. Its front bumper will be substantially vented.

This is to ensure ample air flow to its large, front-mounted engine. The headlights have a new, oval shape and feature LED technology. Moreover, its hood will be flush along the nose section. This boosts aerodynamics.

Thanks to the new body styling, The Taycan’s front section is a little shorter than the Panamera. This creates a fast-back profile that alludes to an overall coupe design. Some iterations of the car that are available online express the Taycan as a crossover. This is because some spy shots captured a Sport Turismo version of the car.

There are some style touches that make this Porsche unique. They include a side vent behind the front fenders and slim LED fog lights set into the front bumper. In the back, the 2020 Porsche Taycan has a pair of tail pipe cutlets built right into the rear bumper. Furthermore, the new model has a light bar for rear illumination. This gives it a futuristic touch as inspired by the concept car.

Interior design

Porsche is taking a high tech direction while developing the Taycan. As such, the interior of the car is bound to be technologically awe-inspiring. Here, we estimate that it will have a flat-bottomed steering wheel. Of course, driver assistance buttons on the spokes and flappy paddle shifters will be a standard feature.

It will also have an LCD screen behind the wheel presenting the instrument cluster. The center stack will most likely have a large display panel made up of two 10 inch touch screen displays meshed together. Moreover, the controls under this section will be touch sensitive and backlit as well.

A range of upholstery options will be available for the Taycan. They include leather, alcantara and fabric. Moreover, drivers could have the options to pick from wood grain, brushed aluminum and even titanium for the various accents around the vehicle’s cabin. Judging from the 4 doors presented in the spy shots, the 2020 Porsche Taycan will most likely seat 5 passengers on 2 rows. Moreover, it will have a motorized sunroof extending along the entire length of the car.

Engine and specs

As always, Porsche will amaze us with what they’ll have under the hood in this car. The 2020 Porsche Taycan is inspired by the Mission E concept. This car has an all-electric drivetrain that delivers 605 horsepower (hp) from synchronous motors that utilize permanent magnet technology. They are located at each axle of the car. If Porsche maintain this powertrain setup in their new car, the Taycan could sprint from 0 to 60 mph in only 3.5 seconds.

To help drivers control this power, the Taycan is bound to have 4-wheel steering and torque vectoring technology. Interestingly, drivers will have the option to buy the Taycan with 1 or 2 battery packs. One of them produces 80 kWh and the other 95 kWh. Those who desire the most horsepower can invest in the large one of the two.
